RE: oil and filters

I like amsoil oil and use their oil filter too. I ride a road king now, but road a sporster before that. My sportster had 28,000 miles on it when I sold it. All but 5000 were with amsoil. I think amsoil was the first synthetic. I have also heard good things about mobil 1 synthetic as well. I use the amsoil oil in all three holes.

RE: Softail Deluxe

The 6th gear is not an overdrive. It is 1:1

RE: 2002 flstc carb problem?

A compression test is always a good idea, but usually when gas comes out of the air box it is a float problem or valve seat problem. Still think swapping out the carb is the way to go.

RE: Softail Deluxe

Can't comment on the softail except to say it is a beautiful bike. Riding a road king with a 6 speed tranny and loving it. Generally don't use 6th gear until I am above 70. Also the way the gears are spaced, I do less shifting up and down.

RE: Brand New Bike On Road Trip To Break In? Yes or No

New engine breakin is a very touchy subject. You will find two different camps. One is take it easy. The other is ride it like you stole it. Below is the web site that promotes ride it like you stole it. I think both camps agree that a steady constant speed is bad for the break in. I commute to dc as well. Riding a road king, I ride from beltsville to dc around catholic university. Anyhow here is the web site. Not for or against, just sparking the flames. How to break in a new engine

RE: Waving to other riders

I think I saw that guy. He was trying to figure out whether he should wave or not. I think he missed his turn.

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

I agree with you 100%. I have had other riders pull up to me when I have stopped. Usually they comment about the bikes, weather or say hello, but then back off when we get rolling. It would make me very uncomfortable to ride side by side with someone who I didn't know their skill level. I think you had every right to be pissed.

RE: Dumb and Dumber

Ok Great, thanks for the reply. I think the problem was that the bike was leaning when you stopped. The distance from the peg and the ground would be shorter on the side that is leaning. This coupled with the numbness in your foot would add to the loss of depth perception. In other words the left side of your foot was probably bumping on the ground on the side of your foot, causing you to think you could not get the foot off of the peg. I think to avoid this from happening again, make sure you are always upright when you stop. Just a thought. Happy riding.

RE: any kiwis here?

Alright, so I live in Beltsville which really is a suburb of Washington, DC. Not bad riding here. Lots of people, so a lot of bad drivers. Keeps things interesting. I am able to ride year round, except for when it snows which is not that often. It gets below freezing here in Jan and Feb but with heated gear I stay toasty. Use to ride a sporster, but got a road king this past january and have been loving it. Take care

RE: Waving to other riders

Hey Klaus, I am real sorry no one stopped to check on you, but don't lose the spirit. There are a ton of bikers who would have stopped to lend a hand. Some of it is a product of our own success. Bikes these days are so reliable, most people pull over for a break, not a break down. I can't tell you how many times I have stopped, only to be waved on. Don't give up on us. We are all brothers and sisters trying to survive amongst the cages. It is our free spirit, with the wind in our face that sets us apart. Let us teach others by example. Enjoy the ride.

RE: Dumb and Dumber

Several questions come to mind: 1.How long have you been riding this particular bike? In other words, in this bike new and you are just getting use to it or have you been on this bike for a while. 2. Was your leg numb when this happened? Were you able to stand right up when this happened? 3. What was new, were the boots new, were the pants new? 4. Were you concentrating on why the car in front of you stopped? Did you have to lock up the brakes, or were you leaning slightly when you stopped? Any additional info would help.

RE: Head wrap

Hey Tommy, Was up in your area, week before last. There is a sandwich shop called "The Doghouse". It is on route 13 close to route 95. They make good foot long dogs, and steak sandwiches. Rode up along the eastern shore, then back home on route 40. It was a good ride.
